Quick Service Restaurants Rebound
March 31, 2022
Speed to Market Equals Revenue
Quick service restaurants have come out of the pandemic stronger than ever. Despite the struggles met early on, large brands are expanding locations or making improvements to their existing stores. Nor-Son Construction has been delivering successful projects in this industry across the Upper Midwest since 1978.
Owners and operators want a quick turnaround with construction to maximize their earning potential. The first step is to decide whether to rebuild or remodel. The “easy button” would be to tear down and rebuild, but it isn’t always the most economical. When rebuilding, it is imperative to get the restaurant open quickly. Last summer, Nor-Son rebuilt a restaurant in St. Peter, MN in just 118 days or about 4 months.
“Great job Nor-Son! Thank you for your hard work, long days and the stress that this project may have caused. This is my favorite project that I’ve done so far. I really like the site flow and it’s a beautiful building.” – Owner and Operator

Nor-Son will start the construction of a quick service restaurant in Little Falls next month. For this business, the current restaurant will remain open while their new location is being built on a neighboring site. Once the new building is open for business, the existing building will be demolished. Dedicated traffic planning and site coordination will be needed throughout construction to support safe business operations.
When remodeling, site coordination, staging, and deliveries become even more critical for the safety of employees, patrons and construction workers. Nor-Son’s responsibility is to be non-disruptive to the business operations and ensure parking and restaurant access are available to not take away from the customer experience.
Communication is key when working on these time-sensitive projects. Pre-construction meetings are invaluable to the success of the project to ensure the entire team understands expectations. There are a lot of moving parts and components that need to be identified in the construction process. Successful communication, coordination, and attention reduces the potential for problems.
Sometimes, it is necessary to shut down operations completely, like when remodeling the kitchen. Nor-Son minimizes the length of time by staging work to be completed, working off hours, or shortening the hours of store operation. In addition, older stores require upgrades to exterior amenities to bring it to current ADA guidelines, such as parking signage and entrance ramps.
Busy locations could experience an average of 1,000 people travelling through the job site each day. It’s our job to ensure everyone gets home safe and client expectations are met.
