Benedictine Living Center of Garrison
Project Overview
Benedictine Living Community of Garrison came to Nor-Son to help develop and realize their campus vision. Benedictine Living is where health, independence, and choice would come to life in their existing skilled nursing facility. Like most other nursing homes built 40+ years ago, Garrison’s facility did not promote a positive lifestyle experience. Nor-Son came in to work with the client to develop a vision and concept to change the lifestyle experience. The traditional facility was set to transition into a household model of care. We ensured appropriate planning for construction phasing and disruption control, so the existing facility could stay in operation throughout construction.
Each household in this 52-bed facility is purposefully designed and right-sized for the group to promote engagement among residents. Rather than the traditional medical-focused facility, each household has a kitchen, dining room, and living room. This setup creates a sense of family belonging and purpose in a home environment. The change in physical setup also helps the client continue embracing change initiatives that support independence and dignity.
