Crookston Transfer Station

Project Overview

The Polk County Environmental Services Transfer Station, constructed by Nor-Son Construction, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to support the county’s waste management operations. The building spans 34,829 square feet, excluding 4,800 square feet of exterior canopies. It features 23,842 square feet on the main level and an additional 10,987 square feet of mezzanine space.

A key component of the project was the construction of a pit scale to accurately determine truck weights. The facility’s 34-foot eave height provides ample clearance for waste processing operations. The building also includes office space, commercial tipping areas, and a transfer trailer loadout zone to enhance efficiency and workflow.

Construction began in 2018 and continued through the winter of 2019, requiring careful planning to manage seasonal challenges. The project involved demolishing the existing transfer station and rebuilding on the same site. The new structure incorporates a 91-foot clear span in the transfer station area for optimal functionality. To ensure safety, the building is fully sprinklered for fire protection.

This modernized transfer station enhances waste handling capacity while improving operational efficiency and safety standards for Polk County.
